Before the general elections, Modi Government is preparing a big announcement for the farmers. Planning to give Rs 4,000 per acre to farmers on every crop. These funds will be transferred directly to the bank account of the farmers. The government is also considering giving interest-free loan up to Rs 1 lakh to every farmer. According to a report by Anilesh Mahajan and Rajiv Dubey, published in Business Today, the central government is trying to help farmers in two ways.
In the account of farmers across the country, the amount of direct benefit transfer, which can go through DBT, can be up to Rs 2 lakh crore. Similarly, the government can spend 28 to 30 thousand crores on interest-free loans. This move by the government will cost around 2.3 lakh crore rupees every year on the public exchequer. The central government has discussed important issues with the Policy Commission in this regard. It's a plan to finalize it within a week. Nodal officers of Agriculture, Finance, Chemical and Fertilizer and Food Ministry have been appointed to finalize the scheme.
*States need help ?
The Central Government has also planned to seek help from the State Governments in this scheme. Actually farming is a subject of state governments. That's why the Modi government is also looking for 30% of the money in the scheme. According to planning, 70 percent of the cost of this scheme will be from the Central Government. But many states want to impose this scheme fully on the Central Government.
Especially in states where there is no government of BJP or NDA. Such states include states like Telangana, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and West Bengal. Some of these states have launched similar schemes for the farmers. And some state farmers are planning to bring a scheme like farm loan waiver. The Central Government also believes that the sooner and the better implementation of this scheme, the BJP or the NDA will get the same benefit in the elections.
*Three states awoke ?
Modi Government has become more alert after the recent assembly elections in five states. In the states of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh, the Congress has won a tough fight. In these states, Congress created a major electoral issue for the farmers' crisis and farmer's debt waiver. Other elections are going to be held in the next few months. It is believed that farming and farmers' debt waivers can be a major issue in this. Congress President Rahul Gandhi is constantly pushing the issue. That is why the Modi government does not want to sit on hand. They will not want to be unhappy with the farmers for their return to power in 2019. On January 1, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had also indicated in his interview that he would not adopt farmer debt forgiveness in a way. He said that debt waivers have not proved to be effective for the farmers' help. An officer in the preparation of this scheme told Business Today that instructions have been given to find new ways to solve the problem of farmers. And it is working fast on this.
